        The UAC offers multiple programs. In the year-round after-school program, students meet three times per week with classes in Steel Pans, African Drumming, Dance, and Performance.  Some of the most talented instructors, performers, and educators in the region are commissioned to work with UAC participants.  Programming is very affordable, costing only $35 an individual or $50.00 a family per month (12-15 classes).



        The UAC also sponsors Camp Celebration, a highly acclaimed annual six-weeks performing arts summer camp. Added to the  year-round curriculum are Creative Writing, Child Development, and Performance Technology. The camp culminates with two Camp Celebration Gala's a well anticipated event held the first Friday in August each year with lunchtime and evening shows. 



        Membership is open to everyone, regardless of prior experience. Parents are encouraged to experience the laughter, learning and magic of community by joining the UAC and participating along with their children.  


        The UAC also has a touring ensemble made up of students from the summer camp and year round evening program.  The award winning Urban Arts Ensemble is available for venues in communities, for organizations, state and private functions.  Please see more information under Urban Arts Ensemble.

        STUDENT'S COMMITMENT:
        • Arrive at each class ready to learn
        • Timely notification when absent
        • Discipline during classes and rehearsals
        • Participation in UAC performances
        • Respect for themselves, educators, and fellow participants
        • Maintain good grades in school or college
        • Mentorship amongst fellow participants    



        PARENTS' COMMITMENT
        • Consistent participation of student - never using the UAC as punishment tool (Students are allowed to miss only one class per week)
        • Support of the "We are all stars" / "There are no stars" UAC philosophy
        • Protection of the UAC amateur status - Students receive no payment for performances - Neither perform with groups receiving money. All monies return to UAC programming.
        • Class attendance whenever possible as support/chaperon &/or studentTimely payment of class fees ($35/student or $50/family per month payable by the 15th of each month.

        Brandon has been in UAC programs since he was nine. He is now 15 with his sights on going to college as a music major. He use to spend his free time running the streets. Now he belongs to his high school band, he is the drummer for his church choir, and works as a teaching assistant for the UAC.

        Participants of any of the UAC programs are invited to become a member of the Award Winning Urban Arts Ensemble which tours throughout the Hampton Roads region as well as other parts of the state and country. Members of the Urban Arts Ensemble have been the invited guest performers of such dignitaries as the Governer of Virginia. They have also been guest artists and featured performers as far away as Albright

        College in Reading, Pennsylvania.  The ensemble has produced numerous local recitals and has consistently earned gold and silver ratings; receiving special recognition in '08,'09,'10, &'11 as the exemplar of building community using the arts  from the Virginia Arts Festival National Panorama competition.


        The Urban Arts Ensemble is the perfect entertainment for your next event:

        1. ____Last (2) most recent paystubs
        2. ____Last (2) most recent bank statements (checking and savings accounts)
        3. ____2009 and 2010 W's attached to completed & signed tax returns
        4. ____Child Support Court Order
        5. ____SSI Award Letter (Disability/Retirement etc.)
        6. ____Pension Statement
        7. ____Complete Bankruptcy Papers ( List of Creditors & Discharge )
        8. ____Complete name, address and phone # for landlord.
        9. ____Contact name and phone# for immediate supervisor to verify employment.
        10. ____Statements for any asset accounts (401K, thrift plans, tax refunds, etc.)
        11. ____Credit explanation letter, explaining in detail derogatory credit situations.
        12. ____Receipts for any debts/collections that have been PAID IN FULL.
