The Center for Community Development (CCDI) has been creating safe, affordable housing for First Time Homebuyers since 1991. Over 100 families have moved into homes that were either newly built or rehabilitated. Homes are primarily built in the Portsmouth and Newport News Virginia, however, CCDI is approved to and has constructed homes throughout the Hampton Roads region.
By offering a greater quality of construction, providing adequate square footage and desirable amenities, the organization now attracts Qualified Buyers from a wide range of economic and social situations.
- 85% of CCDI's Homebuyers receive help with downpayment and closing cost assistance
- Since 1990 over 275 citizens have been housed through CCDI"s Arrodable ZHouseing Program.
- HOME funds are offered through the City of Portsmouth's HUD/HOME Program providing downpayment and closing cost assistance to qualified First Time Homebuyers.
- CCDI continues to receive certification as a HUD Certified Non-profit for participation in FHA programs.
- CCDI has completed homes in the Portsmouth neighborhoods of: Prentis Park, Prentis Place, Park View, West Park View, Shea Terrace, Mount Hermon and Port Norfolk and Cavalier Manor.
- CCDI has also completed homes in Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Smithfield, VA
- CCDI continues to provide First Time Homeownership education
CCDI customers include retired elderly couples, to single parent(s), schoolteachers, retirees, counselors, police officers, active military and Naval Shipyard workers.
NOTE: CCDI's completed houses once sold for as little as $35k, but now appraise and sell from $70k - $116k. In 2010 over 13 million dollars in real estate value. has been created through homes developed by CCDI.
CCDI is committed to decreasing blight, improving the community landscape of our neighborhoods, while providing homeownership opportunities throughout Hampton Roads.
